Preservation focuses on the maintenance and repair of existing historic materials and maintaining the property’s form as it has aged over time. Restoration looks at the property at a particular time in its history, but removes evidence of other periods.
P&G works very closely with the Historical Society in any projects that it does to ensure that the existing condition, material integrity, and the building’s historical significance are kept. Alterations are an important part of the building’s history. Code requirements will have to be taken into consideration as well as materials which is why the interaction with the Historical Society oversight is so important.
P&G also became a member of the Maine Preservation in November of 2003 and is current in its membership.
